Pinterest can take time to set up. But I can help! Trattos Type can assist in the creation of a Pinterest Business Account (contact me today) or keep reading to get started in 3 easy steps.
1. Set up your Pinterest Business Account
You can swap your personal account over to a business account or set up a brand new Pinterest Business Account. Similar to Instagram, by changing to a business account, you have access to analytics, can "claim your website" and if you meet the criteria, become a "verified merchant"
Edit your profile. Add in a photo, choose a display name and user name.
Make sure your display name is the same as your other social media channels. It keeps your brand consistent and helps your audience find you on the various channels.
Your display name should include keywords. By including keywords in your display name you are providing useful information as to what you are about.
Petit Barcelona have cleverly used keywords to help Pinners determine who they are. By adding a short description to their display name, Petit Barcelona have also increased their Pinterest SEOs.
Your bio also needs to include keywords and if appropriate a call to action.
Once you have filled out your profile and claimed your website, you are almost ready to start pinning!
2. Set up your Boards
Simply click on 'create board' to get started. You can have as many boards as you like. But they should reflect your brand, your story and be relevant for your audience.
The Moroccan Bungalow does this well. They sell vintage Moroccan rugs which they source from Morocco. They have dedicated boards for their rugs, their blog, styled photographs of their rugs and other boards that relate to Morocco, but not necessarily their rugs.
Again you need to keep keywords and SEOs in mind. Name your board exactly what it is, this helps Pinterest suggest your boards for Pinners to follow. The descriptions for your boards need to alert Pinners as to what the board is about.
Don't forget to choose the category for your board. Avoid the all encompassing "other" as it is too broad and unlikely for Pinterest to suggest it to other Pinners.
3. Create Pins
Now you can create a pin to add to your board. Click on the + in the right hand corner. Once you have created a pin you can add it as your board's cover image. To edit your board (the cover image & description) click on the ... (3 dots) on the left.
Eye-catching, beautiful images and videos (more on these later) are key to Pinterest success. Pinterest is a visual search engine.
Pinterest users are looking for captivating, original content that is not only visually appealing, but also relevant and useful.
Initially you can Pin straight from your website, creating Rich Pins.
Instead of 'dragging and dropping' or uploading an image, just click on "save from site" and copy in your URL. You will then have a few images from your web page to choose from. All the detail from your website will be added to your pin. This allows you to quickly upload pins, as you don't need to include a title or description. However, your website descriptions may not be Pinterest SEO friendly.
Remember that Pinterest is a visual search engine, here are some handy tips when choosing which photos to Pin.
Your photos need to include context. Explain why your product is good or how it works and showcase that. Don't be surprised when your more abstract images are not engaged with.
Put your logo on your pin. Don’t be shy, let people know where those sweet products come from! Remember Pinners are scrolling through, so make it visible!
Overlay some text on your image. This helps tell your story better and inspire people to click on your pin.
Your boards, pin titles and pin descriptions need the all important keywords. SEOs still apply to Pinterest.
The advantage of Pinterest is that your pins are still seen 12 months later. They appear as fresh content in a Pinner's feed, if your pins have the right keywords.
Schedule your pins, directly on Pinterest or through some social media scheduling apps, like Later.
Link all your Pins to your website. Add in your URL as the 'destination link' Pinners click on your pin and are taken to your site. This may be your landing page, blog page or a specific product page.
You can have a Pinterest account that showcases only your content. Whether that be blogs, recipes or products.
You can design a Pinterest account that take your followers on a journey of things that inspire you by re-pinning content (content not created by you).
Pinterest enables you to create boards with up to five collaborators. Pinners can request to collaborate on other pinners' boards. This again increases exposure and provides new content to your followers.
You can also create secret boards. Perfect if you don’t yet want your audience to view the content. Or just want a private space you can collect cat pictures...
You need to follow other Pinterest accounts. Follow your competitor, similar accounts and influencers on Pinterest. By doing this, Pinterest's algorithms are more likely to suggest you and/or your boards to their followers.
You can launch new products, promote sales or create a sponsored post (paid ad). Show off your blogs, become a trusted voice in the market as you share tutorials and videos. (More on Pinterest Videos later).
Pinterest is another way to increase your online presence. Pinterest provides a longer shelf life for your content than other social platforms. The down side is it is time consuming to set up. But I would love to help! Contact me today.
Happy Pinning!
